Tiding of Comfort and Joy

Long story short—PC and JV both had some bad news today. So I need some comfort and joy. Here is a trio of somber Christmas tunes.

John Fahey was an absolute master guitar player, and a true fan of pre-World War II Blues. Check out anything on the Revenant label if you don’t believe me. Here’s a simple, beautiful version of one of my favorite winter tunes.

In the Bleak Midwinter – John Fahey

For my money, George Jones has one of the best voices in not just country, but all music. There’s such deep loneliness in his voice and delivery.

Lonely Christmas Call – George Jones

This is one of my favorite holiday songs, and there are plenty of great versions. This is certainly one of the saddest out there.

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen – Pedro the Lion

No post tomorrow—go vote.

Any feedback on the Rapidshare usage? We’re going to have to update to something bigger soon, but I just wanted people’s thoughts. Any preferences over this or YouSendIt or another service I’m not aware of?

I'm not a big fan of Rapidshare due to their download caps and long waiting times. Yousendit seems to work pretty well.

Ooh, that's no good. We'll go with Yousend it. Right, Jay? I'll be posting something sometime soon and if there are any problems with Yousendit this year, do let us know.
Thanks for the feedback,

Also, those were JV's songs, and he is currently flying over the ocean, literally, right now, on his way to Italy. I am sure he will repost those songs when he gets back next week. I send him over there every November to get me a 34 pound block of Pecorino Romano, 3 of those salamis for hanging on the mantle, and all the wicker bottles of wine he can stuff into his Care Bears suitcase.

I've missed out on all the November songs so far, with the 10 download limit. If you wouldn't mind re-posting all of them (especially 77 Santas, so I can hear the song that inspired your fantastic website!), that would really start my holiday season off right. Thanks for the all the great music!

What about box.net? That works good. This 10 download limit is frustrating.

Sorry. We'll be up and running soon--JV is out of the country, and I'm out of my mind with grading/planning/making it to the end of the semester. We'll make up for it.

Nice to see a big Fahey fan! Yeah!
BTW, I use www.drop.io and it seems to work well.
